This workshop will make Bruges itself our painterly focus. On the first day of class, we will take a walking tour of Bruges–cameras in hand–as we learn how to take excellent photographs from which to make paintings. We will discuss composition, subject, point of view, light, color, and focus. That afternoon we will use photo-manipulation software like Photoshop Elements to ready our photographs to be painted. Here we will cover how to crop, adjust color and focus, and resize for printing. Then on days 2-5, Glen will lead students through his effective and efficient method for painting from photographs. We will explore how to draw accurately, mix colors to perfection, and how to develop a painting from start to finish.
Glen is the Founder and Director of The Compass Atelier in Maryland, USA. He has over 20 years of teaching experience, including 10 years teaching ‘Painting Through The Lens,’ a class specifically devoted to painting from photographic sources. His empathetic style of teaching brings out the best in each individual student while still conveying the points for artistic improvement that empowers all developing artists.
Come enjoy the beauty of Bruges and revel in the joy of translating it into oil paint. Glen is looking forward to assisting beginning students or experienced artists alike in crafting a masterwork while conveying useful techniques for painting any subject.
