Whitaker has spent six decades exploring materials and techniques. He will share this knowledge unrestricted, in order to shave a few years off your own learning curves.
This will be an intensive class in oil painting and drawing with pencil, charcoal, and brush, observing directly from life. You will learn how to make absolutely accurate copy drawings; You will learn to accurately draw and paint anything placed in front of you, including nudes, portraits, even classical casts. You will come to understand why this is important. How it exercises your visual brain and how it teaches you to see profoundly.
The two most vital components of this class are the use of Natural indirect light and the use of white lead paint in oil painting. You will learn how to use light to describe form and you’ll learn the spiritual importance of natural light. You will learn how to paint in oil using white lead and how it differs from titanium/zinc white based painting. You will learn how to see and paint color in skin to achieve vital living human flesh tones.
The course will cover color mixing, use of oil painting medium, brush control, the best and quickest way to get a human likeness, studio practices and proper use of materials, how to set up a classical studio at home, and finally how to create works of value – works of art.
