Ted Seth Jacobs invites you to apply for
his 3 months residency program on “Drawing Structure“

Tuition: €6159.00 (includes 3 months shared accommodation
in a house or flat in Bruges, Belgium with one or two same
sex students or a model.)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
In order to suggest the world we see, it is necessary to thoroughly understand the principles of light and form. For the phenomenon of vision to occur, the reciprocal actions and effects of both are needed. Without light, all is blackness. Until light is reflected from forms, it remains invisible. To convincingly represent what we see then, our
subject is light and form and their interactions.
From my sixty-odd years of teaching experience, I have found it more effective in a three-month class for you the student to be focused on one aspect of the vast and complex body of knowledge that supports a realistic style.
Accordingly, the 2013 workshop will deal with the subject called “structure’’ as it is applied to the human body. The study of structure itself is complex, and contains many elements, such as: How structure grows. How it is arranged on the body. The different specific structural shapes; How structural shapes are modified by gesture; modular portraitistic proportions; nature’s use of engineering and architectonic principles; shapes that permit the instantaneous transmission of intent to action; inorganic forms to be avoided. The structures of the body will be analyzed from head to foot.
Since over two-thousand years, artists have understood that the most significant characteristic of the body is that it is highly organized. It has a ‘’designed’’ look. I want to teach you to see structurally. You will feel as if you are looking into the inner workings of nature.
This material cannot presently be found anywhere else in the world.
The course is extremely information-intensive, and not for the casual ‘workshopper’.
My goal is to continue to form future professional artists and instructors. The program is not for everybody. It requires very highly motivated students, willing to make the effort to master the material.
All information will be presented in simple language. Instruction is in the form of frequent lecture-demonstrations, and lengthy individual critique.
LANGUAGE: The language of the course is English. Instructor speaks English and French.
