6 Weeks Intensive Atelier Program X 2 Sessions ( Choose one or both sections)
In Drawing and Painting
1st section: 6 weeks – September 5 – October 14, 2016
2nd section: 6 weeks – October 17 – November 25, 2016
At the core of our visual literacy program is our firm belief that anyone can learn to draw and paint at any age, when provided the appropriate instructions.
This three months intensive program will provide the ‘student’ artist with the core training required to advance their skills as artists.
Here students are given a chance to fully immerse themselves in the classical atelier training and techniques of Drawing and Painting in a shorter intensive rather then the regular 4 year program. Students can choose to take a 6 week section or immerse in the full 12 weeks. Opportunity to return and continue with the training every 3 months is available to students who wish to continue.
Students will begin with learning to drawing in graphite. We will work from the Cast and from the Figure from direct observation. It is in the understanding and practicing of the visual tools of drawing that students develop their hand and eye coordination and seeing abilities. We will cover gesture, comparative measuring, shape-seeing, and modeling value with “light on form” theory.
In the third week, the students will advance to taking their drawing of their Cast and their Figure into painting with oils. Students will learn to paint their cast in grisaille, and the figure in full color. We will cover organizing a pallet, hue, value, chroma, color theory, color strings, and painting in a direct method.
Cast copying and observing the Figure from life are traditional academic training methods that allow one to focus and fine tune foundational skills for high accuracy. Each student will get a chance to organize a strategic method of thought and process to develop a clear approach to drawing and painting.
Beginner and experienced students are welcome.
